SALVATION ARMY® CASE STUDY

Livingston County Salvation Army – Fundraising, Events, Advisory Boards

THE STORY:

For over 40 years, The Salvation Army of Livingston County has faithfully served the community in a temporary, downtrodden building in a hidden neighborhood in Howell. Over the years, there were several attempts to raise funds for a new building to no avail. Likewise, many in the community didn’t know much about The Salvation Army Social Services or that they differed from their counterpart, The Thrift Store.

THE GOAL:

1) Create a Capital Campaign team to raise funds for a new building

2) Create awareness in the community of who The Salvation Army was and what they did for the community.

3) Create revenue streams in order to pay for the programs that help the community.

THE JOB:

Dave became Chair of the Advisory Board in 2019 and also led the Capital Campaign, recruiting community leaders for both. ARMOR took over a classic car show in 2018 and began to run it internally with an ARMOR team, with the intent to expand the show. A Red Tie Gala was added in 2022 at a local country club and a Red Tee Golf Outing added in 2025.

THE RESULTS:

Under Dave’s leadership, the Capital Campaign raised $1.7 million towards a new building which was purchased and is being renovated in 2025. The Great Pumpkin Car Show to date has raised over $235,000 while the Gala and Golf Outing have raised in excess of $75,000. Through these events and other activities, The Salvation Army is recognized within the community as a key contributor to the health and wellness of its citizens.
